A strain occurs when a muscle is stressed beyond its capacity. It may swell, knot, spasm or loose its full mobility.

A strain is generally caused by putting too much weight onto the muscle for long periods of time without adequate rest.

A sprain can result from twisting or falling, any unexpected movement. This injury most commonly occurs in the joints, tendons and ligaments where it causes sharp pain, swelling and bruising. 

After the injury apply ice and raise area ASAP. Use only cooling products until the inflammation has subsided. Only after then can warming products be used.
